Briza Publications author Barry Rice has been interested in growing bizarre plants from every genus thought to be carnivorous (except Triphyophyllum) since 1985, and has produced many noteworthy carnivorous plant cultivars.
Born in Oak Park, Illinois in 1963, Barry received his undergraduate degree in Physics from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a PhD in Astronomy from the University of Arizona. He is currently the editor of Carnivorous Plant Newsletter, the publication of the International Carnivorous Plant Society, and is also that organisation’s Director of Conservation Programs. Barry is a member of the IUCN’s Specialist Groups in Carnivorous Plants and North American Plants, and frequently encourages people to support only nurseries that do not collect their stock from the field.
Barry currently works at The Nature Conservancy in its Global Invasive Species Initiative. Since he is fascinated most by observing carnivorous plants in the wild, Barry frequently travels throughout the United States and uses the opportunities to seek out and collect photographs of these plants.
