Born in Pretoria, 1946 Briza Publications author Herman van Niekerk has been involved in wildlife and nature conservation, environmental matters, archaeology and tourism since 1969. He is the former owner and editor of Aves Bird and Natura Nature magazines and author of several books and articles. He is also a Founder member of the Friends of Nylsvley, founder and head of the Impact on Nature conservation organisation and member of the Naboomspruit Bird Club.
Herman is the author of 11 books and more than 300 articles, essays, poems and screenplays in Afrikaans and English. Herman’s hobbies include art and photography. Some photos, sketches, art and/or designs in his books are done by him or come from his collection.

Hy is die voormale redakteur en eienaar van natuurtydskrifte Aves en Natura en outeur van verskeie boeke en artikels. Herman is ook ‘n aktiewe lid van WESSA vir meer as 30 jaar, mede-stigter van Friends of Nylsvley-bewaringsvereniging, stigter en voorsitter van die Impact on Nature natuurbewaringsorganisasie, lid van Naboomspruit Voëlklub, gekwalifiseerde spesialis Suid-Afrikaanse voël veldgids.
Skrywer van 11 boeke, meer as 300 artikels, essays, gedigte en draaiboeke in Afrikaans en Engels. Herman se stokperdjies sluit in kuns en fotografie. Sommige foto’s, sketse, kunswerke en/of ontwerpe in sy boeke is deur hom self gedoen of kom uit sy versameling.
