Briza Publications author Dries van Zyl (-2021) specialised in scientific software development in his professional career and was elected a Fellow of the South African Institute of Computer Scientists. He holds a master degree in physics for which he submitted a thesis on the tone colour of the clarinet.
When employed by the CSIR he created software to transfer Meteosat weather satellite images onto map projections. He was a selector for the Pretoria International Exhibition of Photography on a number of occasions and his own photographs have featured in local and overseas salons and publications. He feels most at home in natural surroundings, especially mountains, absorbing the weather, geology, night sky, fauna and flora, sounds and smells.
